CRITICAT Mini-Project
One of the biggest challenges in the CDT so far has been the mini-project. Chiara and I worked on the catalytic conversion of biomass derived oils. We chose this project because it gave us hands-on experience of testing different materials, using a novel pyrolysis reactor, and we were able to try out new catalyst preparation techniques.
I really enjoyed the technology application of our catalyst (production of energy from waste materials). At first it was challenging; I had to work as a team with people from different backgrounds, but by the end of the ten weeks we had bonded quite well as a group and our work was highly appraised during the Annual CRITICAT Conference. We are now drafting a paper based upon our work that will hopefully be published soon!
